The Elderly Having Delicious Food
In an early spring afternoon in Shuangliu Ancient Town, Sichuan Province, China, five elderly ladies in their eighties sit together. Wearing colourful jackets and wool hats, they happily eat the famous Sichuan snack 'Spring rolls'. A wrap of thin homemade dough, filled with cucumber, carrot and shredded scallions, drizzled with green mustard, Sichuan pepper, red oil, sweet sauce, and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They are 'setting up a Dragon Gate formation' - an expression used in China to refer to neighbourhood friends coming together to chat, gossip and share stories. Food makes these people happy; they enjoy a beautiful and joyful life.

Flour Swirl
Part of the series 'Perfectly Imperfect' where I captured the process of baking sourdough bread while incorporating the symbolism of the Japanese Ensō sign (imperfect circle). Preparing food and photography are both mindful activities where calmness and creativity exist in the moment of creation. This makes the combination of both so magical.

Weighing the Tea Yield
The harvest is the most important activity on a tea plantation. The baskets are weighed several times a day, assessed for the right quality and registered by the field officer. The pluckers' daily goal is to pick eighteen kilos of tea to receive the agreed full daily wage.

Tea Pluckers on Their Way to the Fields
In Sri Lanka's tropical climate, new tea shoots sprout every one to two weeks, making tea plucking a year-round task. At dawn, tea pluckers walk to the fields, where fresh shoots await. This image captures them at sunrise, moving through the lush, rolling hills of the Central Highlands.

Dark and Fudgy Chocolate Cake
This photograph features a tall, multi-layered dark chocolate cake with toasted meringue details, presented on a wooden cake stand against a black background. The dark sponge contrasts with the golden-brown meringue, which is piped between the layers and on top. Three yellow candles sit on the cake, recently extinguished, with wisps of smoke rising. The candle smoke was carefully composited using three separate images to achieve this precise effect. The lighting is dramatic and directional, emphasising the texture of the cake and meringue. The cake itself was made by a talented baker from Rotterdam.
